What you will learn in this course:
This 22-week course home study will guide you through developing a comprehensive medical record system from generation of the record to analyzing the information in the records.
At the end of the course you will be able to establish a Medical Records Department including best practices: from data organization to IT- driven processing.
Course content spans four major parts: PLANNING ADMINISTRATION GLOBAL MRD STANDARDS – Purpose, value and need for medical records – Planning for and creating a sustainable Medical Record Department – Applying information technology (IT) for records management – Organizing Records by job and by function – Safety and Security of Records – Legal aspects of Medical Records development – Records Department Administration – Quality Control in Medical Records – Numbering and filing systems including ICD code – Data Index Method – International Disease classification – Collection and preparation of reports – Introduction to Electronic Medical Records
Teaching Methods is a combination of lectures and case discussion complemented with significant exposure to the Medical Record Department within several hospital case studies and activities, with matching images.
